National September 11 Memorial and Museum – New York
While all of our projects are important, Owen Steel is particularly honored to be the steel contractor for the landmark Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero, dedicated to the memories of the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. With the start of steel construction in September 2008, Owen Steel is working around-the-clock with the design and construction teams from the NS11MM Foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to solve the unique, complex building challenges of the site. Owen Steel has also sponsored and supported two national steel beam tours, allowing thousands of people all over the country to sign beams in connection with the construction of the Memorial and Museum. The steel for the project has received considerable media coverage, including articles in the
New York Times and other local and regional newspapers, along with TV and radio coverage about Owen Steel.

With 800,000 square feet of office space and rising 660 feet in the air, the tower will raise the current skyline by 86 feet. Bob Grace, the Turner Construction executive who awarded the steel contract to Owen, told the Business Courier of Cincinnati that when he was awarding the major prime subcontracts he had a simple philosophy: “You can’t afford to have a problem, so you don’t take a whole lot of chances.” The building will have approximately 6,000 tons of structural steel.
Rego Park Center – New York
When Vornado and its partners began construction in 2007 on this $550 million retail development in Rego Park, Queens, they selected Owen Steel as the steel contractor for the 7,300-ton, 600,000 sq. ft. project. As the project rose just off the Long Island Expressway at Queens Boulevard, the building frame fabricated at Owen Steel filled a full city block, and was delivered and erected on schedule.
One Bryant Park – New York
Completed in 2008 by the Durst Organization, the Bank of America headquarters tower located at 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan is the second-tallest structure in New York, with more than 27,000 tons of steel and 1.2 million sq. ft. of space in its 54-story space. The construction and erection of the steel frame and distinctive spire were chronicled by numerous websites and media outlets, covering everything from the beauty of the steel rising more than 1,000 feet in the air to the environmental responsibility of the design and construction. As always, Owen Steel was proud to be a part of its customers’ proudest construction achievements.
